Grace and Rhys booked me to shoot their wonderful wedding at Hensol Castle. With a church ceremony at a church in Old Llantrisant first with a male voice choir we then headed down to Hensol for the wedding reception. I love Hensol in that it offers the very best when it comes to wedding photography. It doesn't really matter what weather you get when you get married at Hensol in photography terms as the castle itself is just magnificent as a wedding venue. The inside rooms are just huge and then there is the staircase and wonderful features that make wedding photography inside the castle easy should you have bad weather on your wedding day. For this wedding however the weather was great. It meant that we could access not only the large grounds for bride and groom portraits but also the key feature for all Hensol wedding photos.. the lake and Jetty!
I'm always looking to do something unique with my wedding photography. For those of you that don't know I have a love for surfing and also surf photography which I do quite a lot of down at Llangennith beach, Gower in the summer months. When this wedding came around I had recently purchased a very expensive Aquatech surf housing for my camera and also some dome ports for my lenses. I'd been using it for a recent Swansea & Gower tourism contract that I was working on at the time...So on this day I decided I wanted to not only get amazing photos for Grace and Rhys but if time allowed I'd pull off something that no other wedding photographer had done before. I decided that aswell as getting the jetty shot on the lake that is a must for all photographers shooting at Hensol, I would also flip things around and shoot Grace and Rhys on the Jetty from a very different angle. So I took along my wetsuit and Aquatech underwater kit and lens attachments and actually got in the lake so I could pull of the shot that I'd been thinking of pulling off for so long.... You could say it was worth it alone just to see the look on the wedding guests faces at 7pm when I decided to get changed into my wetsuit!... Below are the images from Grace and Rhys' big day.. working alongside me on this day shooting film was Kristian Kane of Fine Rolling Media... Karl x
