The top 10 best places in Wales for an engagement shoot

I often see so many epic wedding and engagement shoots from destination weddings and shoots in some great places around the world from New York city to Las Vegas to Ibiza!  Whist I've been lucky enough to do shoots at both Venice and Paris some of my best work has come from our very own doorstep! I often think we take Wales for granted, We are blessed with some world class jaw dropping coastline, mountains and countryside with two stand out places in South Wales ; Worms head and Three cliffs bay! I'm sure there are equally jealous wedding photographers in New York that would trade grand central station or times square for Pennard castle and the view over three cliffs bay!

Anyway with that said here is a list of places in Wales for engagement shoots. Some of these are my favourites and others are places that I'd love to do photo shoots at.

1. Worms head

Let's start with the obvious ! Worms head, Rhossili and that sunset ! I've done countless shoots here over the years as have every other South Wales wedding photographer but I never get tired of that view!

2. Three cliffs bay

The second most obvious for anyone in Swansea or nearby is three cliffs bay. Again with couples getting married in the Gower this is an obvious choice alongside Rhossili and worms head.

3. Mwnt

Mwnt beach in Ceridigion is an ancient parish in Ceredigion, West Wales, near Cardigan. The Wales Coast Path passes through here and its a stunning beach and piece of coastline for photography.

4. Pen Y fan

Pen Y fan is the highest mountain in South Wales! - I obviously haven't done an engagement shoot here but would love to if anyone is interested in booking one, a sunset here would be just an amazing place for a pre wedding engagement shoot !

5. Llanddwyn Island, Anglesey

This is probably the most romantic place in Wales to have a photography shoot with your fiance! Set on a small island off Anglesey, The ruined church was once home to Saint Dwynwen - the Welsh patron saint of lovers from the 5th century A.D. I've been fortunate to go here to shoot sunset a few times and would love to do a romantic Welsh engagement shoot here, or even a wedding !

6. Joes Ice cream mumbles

What could be more iconic to Swansea than an engagement shoot in the parlour of Joes Ice cream ! Who needs Venice when you have Joes on your doorstep to take a couple for a photography shoot a head of their wedding day! I was fortunate enough to do a vintage style shoot here a few years back with Kelly and Nick.

7. Porthdinllaen and the Ty coch inn

Another amazing beach and pub in North Wales that would be a fantastic place in Wales for an engagement shoot. Its one of my favourites !

8. Arthog, Dollgellau

Whilst I haven't done an engagement shoot here I have shot a wedding - This place is as dramatic as it gets!!

9. Tenby

Who doesn't love Tenby! I've shot weddings and done engagement shoots here! Down at the harbour with its fishing boats and nets amongst the hussle and bussle of Welsh tourists are some amazing places for photography and ice cream !

10. Llangorse Lake

Brilliant place for a wedding or engagement shoot for anyone in the mid Wales area, I often use the lake for photography when working as a Brecon wedding photographer. The photo below was one of my best taken at Llangorse lake from a recent wedding at Peterstone court

To conclude; booking an engagement session with your wedding photographer is a great idea and you also get the benefit of some lovely photos of the two of you in a place thats different to your wedding setting if you wish. You also have the freedom of plenty of time to play with too which can often ensure that you maximise the weather on the day and can also plan accordingly if you wanted a sunset shoot !
